The nestlings are clamoring for food all the time now. You can see the down starting to develop on them. If you look closely you can also see some blue coloring start to appear.

Mother bluebird brought in a delicious green catepillar for lunch to share between the nestlings.

Now that the hatchlings are here, it is a good idea to put out plenty of mealworms. The adults and hatchlings need to eat frequently. The female bluebird must tend to the hatchlings almost continuously. The availability of mealworms in close proximity to the nestcam box helps the adults and hatchlings immensely.
The blue mealworm feeder cup can be seen on top of the mealworm feeder at the left. The adult bluebirds spotted the mealworms very quickly.

A second color observation camera with audio has been added to allow the activity outside the nestcam box to be viewed. This camera will enable viewers to watch the adult bluebirds feed the nestlings from outside the nest box when they try to entice them to fledge. The fledging process can also be viewed from the second camera.

Bluebird Shepherd
The female is spending almost 100% of her time incubating the eggs in the nest. She turns the eggs frequently. The normal incubation period is 12–14 days. We expect the hatchlings to appear sometime around April 23rd or so.
